After the events of 2025-12-14 Game Day, Nia Moonwhisper gets a message from Yarasule via sending stone: "Reached crystal on Glanduin Island. Guardian fellow delightful. Research complete by 6 Austus. Pray drow are not suspicious and stay away. What news from Durnford?"
- Nia replies, "Haven't found Child of Dhermot (aka Teren). Fought tentacle guy that attacked town. Black crystals seem to be powering it. Elves are disappearing. Looking into it."
Questions for the Portreeve
- How is the Duke reacting to the incursion of demon wheel/free magic in his realm? It seems like we're the only people who are doing anything about this situation. Is the duke planning to send support?
- Tell us your history in the town. How did you become Portreeve?
- What's the scoop on the rival lumber magnates? Sabino Labesco asked for our help with the elf disappearances near the lumber camp. Do you trust the Teamsters?
- We need more details on any investigation into the missing elves.
- We'd like you to connect us with someone knowledgeable in town about the demon wheel and/or free magic. The drow incursions are only going to grow in frequency and severity. You need to give us resources to help. Also, have there been other disturbances we aren't aware of?
Portreeve
- Portreeve Vidian Revanen says he can't figure out what's up with the crystals they took from us (on the stave from Glanduin Island)
- I use the Panoptic Lorgniette on Krix's behalf to use the Identify spell on the crystal we got from . It does in fact hold a small amount of Free Magic. It also holds abjuration, evocation, and enchantment magic. It appears to function as a reservoir - similar to the big one on Glanduin Island.
- We tell the Portreeve about the crystal on the island. He wonders if Dirval is somehow involved accidentally or not. Nobody has seen her and the local elves won't tell the Portreeve.
- The Portreeve said his job is difficult, especially because of local power struggles and mistrust between factions -
- The guilds, always in competition for transporting. Teamsters Lumber, Shipping Guild, etc.
- The old farmers. e.g. Killiver who recently bought up the East Farms. Then there's the Lucianne Gresk, from another farm - she lives near the Thaunderwood.
- Then there's the elf vs human divide.
- The gnomes at the GAC are recent arrivals and have the trust of the Duke of Murgholm
- The Portreeve hasn't told the Duke about the recent issues in town yet.
- Charlie's Place is a good next stop.
- Jeremy asked about the Towers. He didn't know anything - said they were old and nobody knows much.
- The Porreeve said The Order of the Scales, who investigates cults, will no doubt have taken an interest in the Free Magic situation.
- He warns us that The Order of the Scales are ruthless in their hunting of cult activity.
Charlie's Place
- Sakima Faelyn Elkhazel and Mardella are sitting at the bar as Nia Moonwhisper walks in.
- Nia talks about how the drow are getting more powerful. Elkhazel said the drow have been winning battles out in the wood. She's in town to get help from Duke of Murgholm via Portreeve Vidian Revanen. She's not been able to convince Vidian to ask the Duke to get involved so far.
- Sakima Faelyn Elkhazel recognizes that Nia is from the Boar Clan, same as her.
- Nia tells Elkhazel about the events at Glanduin Island
- Nia tells Elkhazel that we think Marius's child might be the next Exemplar. That seemed to take her by surprise.
- Nia says she wants to see the war ended
- The war council is very concerned about the drow magic. They suspect Lolth, but they don't think she could have this sort of power on her own.
- Elkhazel confirms the drow have been collecting the elf children.
- Elkhazel doesn't know much about Free Magic or the Demon Wheel.
- Elkhazel doesn't know about Child of Dhermot (aka Teren)
- Mardella seems intrigued by Jeremy's snake issue. "Ahh, a real fey curse!"
- Lucianne Gresk's place is on the way to Mardella's place.
Boarding House
- We go to the boarding house run by Lensa Oryath
- We search Dirval's room to look for clues about her disappearance.
- Nia Moonwhisper uses Detect Magic to see what's going on in the room, particularly looking for Free Magic. She sees a very faint glow coming from under the desk. A small cut, clear crystal. Abjuration, evocation, enchantment, and free magic.
- Fancy looking clothes in the closet - expensive.
- Jeremy finds a letter on the desk: its from her brother, Silistra, who is heading to the war clans. She wants to be a salt magnate. She's sick of being scared like the rest of the elves in town. She said meeting Sister Checkina was the best thing that's ever happened to her.
- Sakima Faelyn Elkhazel told us that Checkina is a drow name. She thinks they've clearly been corrupted
- "SIster" could be membership in a house or a drow ranking system of some sort.
Church
- Nia Moonwhisper and Zaithar join the evening's ceremony while Jeremy, Panelin, and Krix go to find Rosa
- "We acknowledge the duty to mend" and are each given a luck token, to be used for a reroll in the future.
- Violetta Witchalder is there at the event. She is glad to see us.
- She takes us to see Rosa, healing in the infirmary.
- She confirms that Dirval finds the crystals in the Thaunderwood. She goes up the path to the Lucianne Gresk's place, then off to the Thaunderwood.
- Rosa is basically useless.
- Brimsley was watching us. Creepy.
Elk and Ankheg Inn
- I feel the sending stone calling: "Reservoir charging still non detect. Preparing dispatch of technical team with combat support. Charging is highest priority." I tell them we moved the crystal to the Thaunderwood in hopes it throws them off the scent for a bit. Then Jeremy uses the sending scroll we got from Portreeve Vidian Revanen to warn Yarasule.
